Claiming a measure of vengeance at the Erste Bank Open on Saturday, Alexander Zverev set the stage for a thrilling final showdown in Vienna.

In a compelling clash featuring two Top 10 players from the PIF ATP Rankings, Zverev bested Lorenzo Musetti with a scoreline of 6-4, 7-5. This win not only improved his head-to-head record to 2-3 against Musetti but also reversed the outcome of their quarter-final duel in Vienna last year. With his sights set on capturing a second ATP 500 trophy (his first being in 2021), Zverev will now go head-to-head with Jannik Sinner, revisiting their epic final at this year’s Australian Open, where Sinner emerged victorious in straight sets.

Despite entering the tournament with a shoulder concern and narrowly escaping his first match against Jacob Fearnley in a third-set tiebreak, Zverev has showcased dominant form this week, not dropping a single set since.

“I’ve regained some confidence in both my body and my game,” Zverev shared. “Today’s match felt solid. I’m thrilled to secure the win and look forward to facing Jannik in the final.”

Zverev holds a slight edge over Sinner with a 4-3 lead in their head-to-head record. The two have not crossed paths since that Australian Open final.

“I suppose that’s mostly on me since he seems to be in every final imaginable,” Zverev joked. “I’m excited for this challenge—competing against one of the top players in the world will really test my level.”

With this semi-final win, Zverev reaches the milestone of 300 hard-court victories at the professional level, joining an elite group of just eight active players. His hard-court record now stands at a remarkable 300-134.

The second seed delivered an impressive performance, hitting nine aces and winning 83% of his first-serve points, as per Infosys ATP Stats. Notably, he faced no break points during the match.

Musetti, despite the loss, aimed to solidify his eighth-place standing in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin. He currently holds a 420-point lead over Felix Auger-Aliassime for the last qualifying position at the Nitto ATP Finals.
