Belgium clinched its place in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup Finals on Tuesday in Bologna, securing a convincing 2-0 victory over France with stellar performances from Raphael Collignon and Zizou Bergs.
In the first match, No. 86 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Collignon showcased his talent by outlasting Corentin Moutet with scores of 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, giving Belgium an early lead. Zizou Bergs then sealed the deal, defeating Shanghai finalist Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 7-6(4), ensuring an unassailable 2-0 lead for his team.
Bergs displayed remarkable resilience, bouncing back after failing to serve out the match at 5-3. He ultimately prevailed in the second-set tie-break after a fierce battle lasting one hour and 34 minutes. Earlier, Belgium secured its spot in the Final 8 with an impressive 3-2 win against Australia in the qualifiers held in September.
Next, Belgium will face two-time defending champions Italy or Austria in the semi-finals this Friday. Historically, Belgium has been a formidable contender in the Davis Cup, reaching the finals in 2015 and 2017. The championship match for this year is scheduled for Sunday.
