NEW YORK — In a historic moment for tennis, Coleman Wong has made history as the first player from Hong Kong to triumph in a Grand Slam men’s singles match since the dawn of the Open era in 1968.

Wong showcased his talent by defeating American contender Aleksander Kovacevic in a gripping first-round match at the U.S. Open on Monday. He secured victory with scores of 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (4) after nearly 2.5 hours of intense competition.

At just 21 years old, Wong, currently ranked 173rd on the ATP Tour, made his main draw Grand Slam debut. He had previously faced challenges in qualifying rounds at the U.S. Open, Australian Open, and in two attempts each at Wimbledon and the French Open.

Looking ahead, Wong is poised to take on Australia’s Adam Walton in the next round.
