Can Novak Djokovic create more history at the Rolex Shanghai Masters this week?

The Serbian superstar holds the ATP Masters 1000 records for the most titles (40), finals (60), and semi-finals (79) according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, giving him a chance to further increase each milestone as he advances to the quarter-finals in China.

With four titles already in his possession, Djokovic is just three wins away from claiming an unprecedented fifth trophy, marking his first Masters 1000 victory since the 2023 Rolex Paris Masters.

Remarkably, he isn’t just a record-holder in Shanghai; he leads the pack at multiple Masters 1000 events, cementing his legacy across the series.

In fact, the former No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings holds, or shares, the record for the most titles at four of the nine Masters 1000 tournaments currently on the ATP calendar. He shares the top title count of five with Roger Federer at Indian Wells and six with Andre Agassi at Miami, while standing alone with the most crowns in both Shanghai and Paris.

Members of the ATP No. 1 Club have consistently dominated the Masters 1000 tournament scene. Historically, every player boasting the most titles at each of the nine tournaments has eventually ascended to the No. 1 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings during their career.

Rafael Nadal leads the way with titles at the clay-court Masters 1000 events in Monte-Carlo (11), Madrid (5), and Rome (10), while Ivan Lendl has secured six victories in Canada and Roger Federer has claimed seven in Cincinnati.

No one, however, has reached the heights of Djokovic in this realm. His record of Masters 1000 titles is double that of all but two players in the series’ history (since 1990): Nadal with 36 and Federer with 28.

At 38 years old, Djokovic now stands as the oldest quarter-finalist in Masters 1000 history. He aims to continue his remarkable journey on Thursday as he faces Zizou Bergs for a spot in the semi-finals.
