Victoria Mboko from Canada is set to seize another opportunity to compete in the main draw of a prestigious WTA Tour 1000 event.
The 18-year-old achieved this milestone on Tuesday, defeating Russia’s No. 9 qualifying seed Kamilla Rakhimova with a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the final round of qualifiers for the renowned Italian Open, held on clay.
Earlier this season, Mboko made waves by advancing to the second round of the Miami Open after being granted a wild card entry.
Currently ranked No. 156 in the world, Mboko boasts an impressive 32-3 win-loss record this season. Most of her success has come on the ITF World Tour, where she has clinched five titles. Additionally, she contributed to Canada’s efforts in the Billie Jean King Cup, winning two singles matches.
Joining Mboko in the women’s singles draw at the Italian Open are fellow Canadians Leylah Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu.
On the men’s side, Canada will be represented by Gabriel Diallo, Denis Shapovalov, and Felix Auger-Aliassime in the singles draw.
