The next thrilling chapter for Victoria Mboko and Naomi Osaka will unfold on the iconic hard courts of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Both players made headlines on Friday as they withdrew from the Cincinnati Open, a decision announced by the tournament officially.
As the first rounds of the WTA 1000 tournament kicked off on Friday, Mboko and Osaka were slated to compete on Saturday. Instead, they’ll allow a lucky loser to step in while they gear up for the upcoming U.S. Open at the end of August.
Just days prior, they faced each other in a gripping final at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal, which concluded with Mboko securing her debut WTA 1000 title after a nail-biting match.
Throughout the tournament, Mboko managed a wrist injury that affected her performance in the latter stages.
The talented athlete from Burlington, Ontario, has climbed to the 24th spot in the latest world rankings released on Friday, marking her as the highest-ranked Canadian woman. For the first time, she will enter the U.S. Open as a seeded player.
