PARIS — Venus Williams is set to make her mark in the women’s doubles event at this month’s French Open, teaming up with the talented Hailey Baptiste, who is 21 years her junior.
The dynamic duo was officially announced on Wednesday by the organizers for the prestigious clay-court tournament at Roland-Garros, kicking off on May 24 in the heart of Paris.
At 45, Williams has decided to focus solely on doubles this year, opting out of the women’s singles competition.
Williams made headlines as a wild-card entry in the Australian Open, where she faced an early exit in the first round, making her the oldest participant in the tournament’s singles history.
A seven-time Grand Slam champion in singles, Williams has previously captured the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles categories.
Notably, Williams battled in the 2002 French Open singles final against her younger sister Serena and celebrated victory twice in the French Open doubles event, clinching titles in 1999 and 2010 alongside her sister.
