Venus Williams dazzled the crowd at Manhattan’s annual Met Gala with her stunning emerald attire.
Making a bold statement, former world No. 1 Venus graced the red carpet in a exquisite Lacoste gown in “kelp green,” complemented by a dramatic robe-style coat, meticulously crafted by designer Pelagia Kolotouros.
At 44, Venus proudly serves as a brand ambassador for Lacoste.
Lacoste shared insights into the inspiration behind the design.
“Venus’ look for the Met Gala, envisioned by Lacoste, draws upon significant influences central to the event’s theme—from the iconic flair of André Leon Talley to Joséphine Baker, known as the ‘Black Venus’,” the brand stated. “Designed in kelp green as an homage to Lacoste’s heritage, the silhouette plays with proportions, offering a striking take on the evening’s fashion code: Tailored for You.”
The four-time Olympic gold medalist also provided her followers with a glimpse behind the scenes via Instagram.
“I’m thrilled to be back at the Met Gala this year with Lacoste for their remarkable debut,” Venus expressed. “Working with Pelagia on this custom outfit made the event even more memorable. We’ve had a long collaboration, and this felt like a true full-circle moment.”
“I’m honored to represent a brand I deeply admire on a night that honors creativity, history, art, and fashion.”
Lacoste also divulged intriguing details about Venus’ Met Gala ensemble:
Initially, a piqué-inspired embroidery graced the polo collar and placket of a tailored bodysuit, created by Atelier Baqué Molinié, renowned for its embroidery craftsmanship.
This intricate ensemble features a dazzling array of 1,500 pierced crystals, 1,500 sequins, 2,800 Toupies, and 11,200 round beads.
The elegant silk-wool blend skirt, with its sunburst-pleated design, allows for fluid movement and is shorter in the front while cascading longer in the back—crafted using 30 meters of fabric, expertly managed by Lemarié. This latest collaboration underscores the enduring connection between Lacoste and the historic French maison d’art, celebrated for its pleating mastery since 1880.
