Alexander Zverev emphasizes that today’s ATP Top 30 is more formidable than during the Big 4 dominance.
The World No. 2 Zverev, known for his victories over tennis legends Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, claims that the depth of competition has significantly increased since he first entered the Top 10 in August 2017.
“It’s substantially tougher now. The level of players is much higher,” Zverev remarked following his match against world No. 21 Francisco Cerundolo, where he lost 7-5, 6-3 in Madrid today. “I recall when I first entered the top 10; it was back in 2017, which feels like ages ago.”
“Indeed, the top 10 was incredibly strong, featuring the four greatest players in Novak, Rafa, Roger, Andy, Stan, and del Potro, among others, but there was a notable gap in talent from 10 to 20 and 20 to 30 compared to now.”
Zverev, the Australian Open finalist, acknowledges the legendary status of Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer but asserts that the overall depth of talent has intensified.
“Sure, the elite was astonishing, but the current depth is remarkable,” Zverev stated.
