In a thrilling round at the Rolex Paris Masters, Taylor Fritz secured his place in the Nitto ATP Finals race with a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory over Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic.

With other contenders like Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Daniil Medvedev also emerging victorious, Fritz now stands fifth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, keeping his qualifying hopes alive.

The fourth seed, who reached the finals last year only to fall to Jannik Sinner, marked his 52nd win of the season, delivering 12 aces and smashing 10 forehand winners.

“That was a challenging match,” Fritz commented. “He served exceptionally well in the first set. After the set, I checked the stats; he was at a striking 72 percent first serves. I noticed he missed a few in the tiebreak, but overall his serve was phenomenal.”

“I played well to hold my serve and executed solidly in the tiebreak, then found my rhythm to break in the second set.”

The 2024 US Open finalist now looks forward to facing either the 13th seed Alexander Bublik or Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the upcoming third round.

“No matter who I face, it promises to be a challenging match,” Fritz said. “Both of them can make you feel uncomfortable with their varied shots, especially Moutet with his unpredictability and Bublik with his drop shots. I need to be mentally prepared for whatever they throw at me.”
