Jannik Sinner is making waves as the World No.1!
The Italian sensation boasts an incredible record of 47 wins out of his first 50 matches since claiming the ATP’s top ranking. While this data set is relatively small compared to the 29 other players that held the No.1 spot before him, his performance truly stands out.
Sinner’s astounding 94% winning rate as the reigning No.1 eclipses that of tennis legend Bjorn Borg, who held a 91.9% winning rate (136-12 record). This places Sinner firmly at the top of the leaderboard for winning percentage at this stage.
Trailing closely behind is Jimmy Connors, the only other player to achieve a winning percentage exceeding 90% at No.1. Connors finished with an impressive 408-45 record (90.1%).
If you’re curious about how Sinner compares to the legendary Big Three—Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal—consider this: each has played over 300 matches at No.1! Djokovic leads the trio with 485 wins against 78 losses, resulting in a solid 86.1% winning rate, ranking him sixth all-time. Furthermore, no player has surpassed the 500-match mark at No.1.
Federer achieved a remarkable 430-56 record (88.5% winning percentage), placing him fifth in history, while Nadal holds a solid 268-44 record (85.9%), putting him eighth overall.
According to ATP statistics, Sinner’s winning percentage as No.1 (94%) significantly surpasses his pre-ranking performance (74.3%).
This 23-year-old, a three-time major champion, has already amassed a total of 34 weeks as No.1. He has his sights set on becoming only the fifth player in history to maintain an extended tenure at the ATP rankings’ pinnacle for over a year. The other elite players who have achieved this are Roger Federer (237 weeks), Connors (160 weeks), Lleyton Hewitt (75 weeks), and Djokovic (53 weeks).
