Jannik Sinner’s aspirations for ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF are starting to slip away.
With Sinner’s retirement during the third set of his match against Tallon Griekspoor at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, Carlos Alcaraz is now firmly in control of the year-end No. 1 race.
Alcaraz has surged ahead, leading Sinner by 2,540 points in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, which serves as the key indicator for the coveted year-end title. Although the top spot isn’t totally out of reach for Sinner, he will need to perform near flawlessly in the upcoming weeks.
Coming up next, Sinner will compete in Vienna, followed by the final ATP Masters 1000 event of the season in Paris, and then the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin. The talented 24-year-old has the opportunity to amass a maximum of 3,000 points across these events.
Simultaneously, Alcaraz is gearing up for both Paris and the Nitto ATP Finals, where he stands to pick up 2,500 points unless he accepts a wild card into another competition this year.
If Sinner had successfully defended his title in Shanghai, the gap would have been narrowed to just 1,590 points, offering him a robust platform for a late-season charge for the No. 1 spot. Now, Sinner must focus on clinching titles while hoping for early exits from Alcaraz’s remaining matches.
Per the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Alcaraz boasts a stellar 67-7 record this season, while Sinner stands at 43-6. Alcaraz was acknowledged as year-end No. 1 in 2022 and Sinner followed in 2024.
As it stands, no other player is in contention for the ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by PIF title.
