LONDON — It seems Serena Williams has made a remarkable recovery from her recent knee setback just in time to return to the doubles courts at Wimbledon.
At 44 years young, Serena, alongside her sister Venus, 46, is set to compete in their opening-round doubles match this Saturday. Organizers have rescheduled the match, providing Serena crucial time to address a knee issue she faced during her singles play.
The highly anticipated matchup against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra marks the only first-round doubles match yet to commence in this prestigious grass-court tournament. Scheduled for Saturday, organizers have indicated the match will take place after 4:30 p.m. local time, but the specific court assignment has yet to be revealed.
This timing suggests a likely appearance on one of the tournament’s prominent show courts, following the conclusion of earlier singles matches.
In her earlier singles match, Serena faced Maya Joint, suffering a first-round exit while tweaking her right knee, marking her much-anticipated return to the All England Club after a four-year absence.
Tournament director Jamie Baker confirmed the match delay was a strategic choice to offer Serena “as much time” as possible to recuperate for the doubles round.
“We want her to participate if she’s able to,” Baker emphasized earlier on Friday.
Venus, meanwhile, took to the mixed doubles court with partner Kevin Krawietz on Friday but unfortunately fell in straight sets to Tereza Mihalikova and Lloyd Glasspool.
