Leandro Riedi’s remarkable victory at the Busan Open is a testament to his determined comeback from injury.
The Swiss player pressed pause on his 2025 season after qualifying for and reaching the third round of the US Open. Riedi had to undergo groin surgery, marking his third operation in just over a year.
Entering Busan with a 6-8 record this season, the 24-year-old soared up 40 positions to reclaim the No. 129 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings after his stunning win. In the final, Riedi fought back against Buyunchaokete, coming back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. This title marks Riedi’s first victory at any level since January 2024, adding to his tally of five Challenger titles.

“Winning this tournament was beyond my imagination,” admitted Safiullin. “Each match felt like a battle. I faced significant challenges right from the qualifiers, including a match point situation in the quarter-finals against Jaime Faria, but I persevered.”
As a qualifier, the former world No. 36 is now celebrating his perfect 7-0 record in Challenger finals after just competing in his sixth event this season.
