NextGenATP sensation Rafael Jodar secured another victory against Cameron Norrie on Friday at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, dominating the Brit with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2. This triumph marks an impressive eight-match winning streak for the 19-year-old.

Having previously bested the former World No. 8 in Acapulco earlier in February, Jodar displayed his prowess once again at this ATP 500 event. Even after facing early setbacks by dropping serve twice in the first set, he remained unfazed, showing exceptional tenacity to regain control of the match.

“Cameron is always a challenging competitor,” Jodar reflected. “I felt I managed the crucial moments and pressure exceptionally well today. I’m pleased with my performance, but I understand the journey isn’t over yet. I must continue to strive forward as more matches await.”

With this victory, Jodar joins an elite group of just five Spanish teenagers to reach the semi-finals in the Barcelona tournament during the Open Era, alongside legends like Alex Corretja (1994), Carlos Moya (1996), Rafael Nadal (2005, 2006), and Carlos Alcaraz (2022, 2023).

In their second encounter under the Lexus ATP Head2Head banner, Jodar impressively delivered 21 winners compared to Norrie’s eight, securing 75 percent (24/32) of his first-serve points, per Infosys ATP Stats. This swift 69-minute victory not only marked his third win against a Top 30 opponent but also added to his accolades from earlier this season.

Just a year ago, he was ranked outside the Top 600, but Jodar’s rise has been meteoric. As the reigning US Open boys’ singles champion, he made his Next Gen ATP Finals debut in 2025 and has continued to ascend this year, racking up 13 tour-level wins, highlighted by his inaugural tour-level title in Marrakech and a third-round finish at the ATP Masters 1000 in Miami.

Now climbing five spots to No. 42 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, the 19-year-old looks to secure his second tour-level final on Saturday as he prepares to challenge ninth seed Arthur Fils, who advanced by defeating second seed Lorenzo Musetti.
