On Tuesday, Novak Djokovic arrived at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, energized and ready to resume competition after a four-week break.
As a record four-time champion here, Djokovic has an outstanding 39-6 tournament record, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index. His last appearance ended in last year’s final against Jannik Sinner, a match he aims to rectify this time around.
Following Monday’s official draw, there’s a potential rematch with Sinner in the semi-finals, but for now, Djokovic is excited about his return to one of his favorite venues on the ATP Tour.
Reflecting on his experiences, Djokovic expressed, “My first [Nitto ATP Finals] was hosted here back in 2007. The venue is exceptional, offering a unique comfort level that top players enjoy—having your own locker room and private space truly makes a difference.”
As the fourth seed, Djokovic will kick off his title defense in Shanghai against either Marin Cilic or a qualifier/lucky loser in the second round. Notably, he triumphed in a dramatic 2012 final against Andy Murray, saving five championship points to secure his inaugural win at this highly regarded event.

Currently sitting fourth in the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin, Djokovic returns to competition in Shanghai after reaching the semi-finals at the US Open earlier this month.
