Get ready for an action-packed Tuesday at the National Bank Open presented by Rogers!
In Montreal, the men’s draw will feature an electrifying lineup of four quarterfinal matches, a result of rain delays that pushed action from Monday. Meanwhile, in Toronto, two of the top four seeds in the women’s competition will be battling for a coveted spot in the semifinals.
Here’s a sneak peek at the thrilling matches lined up for the day:
Top Women Contenders Aim for Semifinal Spots
With both top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and No. 3 Jessica Pegula knocked out in the Round of 16, the spotlight shifts to Elena Rybakina (2) and Coco Gauff (4), the sole remaining top seeds in the women’s draw. Gauff, the proud owner of two major titles, faces off against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, the champion of NBO 2015, after Bencic’s recent victory over Alexandra Eala of the Philippines. Gauff remains undefeated against Bencic this year, including a critical win during the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
On the other hand, Rybakina is set to clash with Japan’s Naomi Osaka. Osaka dashed Canadian hopes at the NBO when she triumphed over Leylah Fernandez—the last Canadian remaining in the tournament. Tuesday’s match marks their first-ever showdown, pitting the reigning Australian Open champion Rybakina against Osaka, who has battled through three sets in two of her three matches at this tournament.
After weather constraints halted play on Monday, the day starts with No. 19 Luciano Darderi of Italy going head-to-head with 28th-seeded American Brandon Nakashima in the first quarterfinal. Additionally, Spain’s 20th-seeded Rafael Jodar will take on France’s No. 18 Arthur Fils in a match that was also postponed. The 19-year-old Jodar has made waves this tournament, upset victories against No. 11 Lorenzo Musetti and No. 8 Jiri Lehecka adding to his remarkable journey.
Defending the Title
Ben Shelton, who captured his first tour-level victory at the NBO in 2025, aims to secure his place in the semifinals against the 13th-ranked Jakub Mensik from Czechia. As the highest-ranked player remaining on the men’s side at No. 5, Shelton’s competition is heating up.
In another matchup, unseeded Daniel Merida will take on 12th-seeded American Learner Tien. Merida’s impressive journey includes four wins, but only one against a seeded competitor (No. 24 Ugo Humbert of France).
