Emerging as a true sensation in the tennis world, Jakub Mensik showcased his remarkable talent and resilience in Miami by defeating the legendary Novak Djokovic with a score of 7-6(4), 7-6(4). This victory marks his first ATP Masters 1000 title—a monumental achievement for the young star.
The 19-year-old Czech phenom demonstrated an incredible ability to perform under pressure throughout the week, clinching all seven tiebreaks he contested and overcoming two Top 5 players to secure the title. However, in a twist of fate that nearly kept him off the court, Mensik shared that he almost withdrew from the tournament.

“A big shoutout to Alejandro, one of the exceptional ATP physios,” Mensik expressed to the audience post-match victory over the Grand Slam icon. “Just one hour prior to my opening match in Miami, I was clutching the withdrawal paper due to intense knee pain. I was fortunate that the referee was on a lunch break.
“For my final treatment, he worked wonders. Thanks to him, I could step on the court today. And because of him, I’m celebrating this victory.”
Mensik triumphed over Djokovic in a gripping two-hour and five-minute match, becoming the first player since 2001 to secure their debut title at an ATP Masters event. He also holds the distinction of being the first Czech man to conquer a Masters event since Tomas Berdych accomplished the feat in 2005.
With this victory, Mensik is set to ascend to No. 24 in the ATP rankings on Monday.
