Mboko Exits Wuhan Open in First Round Against Alexandrova

Victoria Mboko of Canada has exited the Wuhan Open tennis tournament after a decisive 6-3, 6-2 defeat against Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova on Monday.

Seeded eighth in Wuhan, Alexandrova showcased her skill by breaking Mboko four times from eight opportunities, securing 56 percent of the total points and wrapping up the match in just one hour and 20 minutes.

Ranked 24th globally, Mboko has now suffered three consecutive losses following her impressive triumph at the National Bank Open in Montreal, where she claimed her first career WTA title.

Her current season record stands at 53-12.

The talented 19-year-old from Toronto began the year with an impressive 22-match unbeaten streak in the lower-tier ITF circuit, successfully transitioning to the elite level of women’s tennis.

In other tournament action, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Quebec, is set to face Japan’s No. 11 Naomi Osaka in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament on Tuesday morning (Monday evening ET).
