In an impressive display of skill, Victoria Mboko from Toronto has successfully moved on to the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open, delivering a commanding straight-sets win over German qualifier Eva Lys on Tuesday evening.
This talented 19-year-old Canadian, who made headlines in August by becoming only the second wild-card entry to clinch victory at the National Bank Open in Montreal, triumphed over 23-year-old Lys with a score of 6-1, 6-1, all within a swift 50 minutes.
Next up for Mboko is a challenging match against the winner of the face-off between Leylah Fernandez and the formidable second-seed, Elena Rybakina of Russia.
During Tuesday’s showdown, Mboko showcased her powerhouse serve, ending the match with five aces and 11 unforced errors. In contrast, Lys struggled, failing to record any aces, while committing one double fault and accumulating 17 unforced errors.
The Canadian star hit 11 winners, had two double faults, and impressively won five return games. She capitalized on five out of eight break points and boasted a remarkable 87 percent winning rate on her first serve, far surpassing Lys’s 46 percent.
