In a thrilling showdown at the Guadalajara Open, Canada’s Rebecca Marino faced an early exit after a hard-fought second-round match, falling to Germany’s Tatjana Maria with scores of 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday.
Marino impressed with 12 powerful aces and maintained a low error rate with just one double fault, yet she only managed to capitalize on one of her two break-point opportunities throughout the match.
The sixth-seeded Maria responded with five aces while committing three double faults during the intense one-hour and thirty-minute encounter.
Maria also showcased her skill by converting three out of 11 break-point chances, proving pivotal in her victory.
Marino, hailing from Vancouver, was coming off a convincing win against Italy’s Martina Trevisan earlier, where she dominated with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The 34-year-old Marino is gearing up for her next challenge, as she prepares to team up with Mexico’s Fernanda Contreras in the women’s doubles first round later on Wednesday. The duo will face off against Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and Indonesia’s Aldila Sutjiadi.
