In a thrilling turn of events, Lorenzo Musetti will make his debut in the Nitto ATP Finals after Novak Djokovic announced his withdrawal due to a shoulder injury.

Musetti has now secured his spot in the Jimmy Connors Group as a direct acceptance, while Alexander Bublik moves up to be the first alternate.

This year has marked a monumental chapter in Musetti’s career, highlighted by his first-ever ATP Masters 1000 final appearance in Monte-Carlo. He also reached the semi-finals at prestigious tournaments in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros, solidifying his presence in the Turin showdown.

Following his success at the US Open, where he reached the quarter-finals, Musetti continued to shine, making it to the finals in Chengdu, the semi-finals in Vienna, and another final appearance in Athens.

This is also a historical moment, as it’s the first time two Italian singles players have qualified for the same edition of the Nitto ATP Finals. In 2021, Matteo Berrettini qualified but had to withdraw, giving Jannik Sinner the opportunity to step in as an alternate.

Djokovic this year matched the record for the most Nitto ATP Finals qualifications, tying with Roger Federer at 18.

In his social media announcement, Djokovic expressed, “I was eagerly anticipating my time in Turin and aiming to perform at my best, but after today’s final in Athens, I regret to inform you that I must withdraw due to a persistent injury. I sincerely apologize to the fans who were excited to see me play—your support means the world to me. I wish every participant an outstanding tournament and look forward to returning to the court soon!”
