Could Italy be on the verge of having two players in the iconic singles lineup for the Nitto ATP Finals?
Jannik Sinner has already claimed his place in the season finale, while his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti stands strong at eighth in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin. The upcoming two months are critical for the 23-year-old as he strives for his debut at this prestigious event on home soil.
Musetti currently leads the action at the Chengdu Open, where he was a finalist last year, narrowly missing out against local favorite Shang Juncheng. His standout performances this season encompass his historic ATP Masters 1000 final in Monte-Carlo, along with impressive semi-final finishes in Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros. He also reached the US Open quarter-finals, where he faced an elimination by Sinner.

If Musetti secures a spot alongside Sinner in Turin, it would be a historic moment, marking the first instance of two Italians qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals. In 2021, Matteo Berrettini made the cut but had to withdraw after one match due to an abdominal injury, allowing Sinner, who was the first alternate, to step in. Now, Sinner has made it to the finals through his own remarkable performance in the last two seasons, even clinching the title last year without losing a set.
Currently, only Alcaraz and Sinner have qualified, while Shelton and Musetti are vying for their first Nitto ATP Finals appearance. Meanwhile, Andrey Rublev (11th) and Alexander Bublik (15th) are competing this week in hopes of climbing the ranks, with Rublev and Bublik participating in the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open.
The doubles competition could showcase Italians as well, with Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori currently sitting sixth in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings. This dynamic duo has claimed four tour-level titles this season: Adelaide, Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Washington, in addition to reaching the Australian Open final and the title match in Halle.
Leading the PIF ATP Doubles Teams Rankings are British duo Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, who enjoy an 830-point advantage over second-placed Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. The latter team recently triumphed at the US Open, saving three championship points to defeat Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury in a nail-biting final.
