LONDON — Linda Noskova has etched her name into history as the newest Czech woman to triumph at Wimbledon.
The 21-year-old showcased remarkable resilience, bouncing back from a second-set hiccup where she let slip five match points, ultimately defeating Karolina Muchova with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in an all-Czech showdown on Saturday, securing her inaugural Grand Slam title.
Noskova is now the third Czech female athlete in just four years to lift the coveted trophy, following in the footsteps of Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.
Among the spectators was the iconic Petra Kvitova, who captured Wimbledon glory in both 2011 and 2014, alongside the legendary Martina Navratilova, celebrated for her unprecedented nine singles titles at the All England Club.
Navratilova observed the match from the Royal Box, seated beside Kate, the Princess of Wales, who was expected to present Noskova with the prestigious Venus Rosewater Dish trophy.
Muchova and Noskova formed a doubles partnership at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they finished in fourth place.
Looking ahead to the men’s final on Sunday, top seed Jannik Sinner aims to defend his title against French Open champion Alexander Zverev.
