Canada’s star Leylah Fernandez has soared seven positions to claim the No. 23 spot in the latest WTA rankings, unveiled on Monday, thanks to her impressive journey to the Ningbo Open final in China.

The 24-year-old from Laval, Quebec, made a significant leap among the top 25 competitors, despite succumbing to world No. 1 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in a tough championship match that ended 6-2, 6-2.

Fernandez was on the hunt for her second trophy of the season, aiming to add to her win in Singapore from late September, and seize her seventh title in WTA history.

In addition, fellow Canadian Victoria Mboko saw a slight rise, moving up to No. 15, despite being out of action due to a knee injury sustained in June.

Mboko, hailing from Burlington, Ontario, capitalized on Belinda Bencic’s drop of six places to land at No. 20.

Rybakina maintained her dominance at the top of the rankings with 9,501 points after securing her fourth title of the season and the 15th of her illustrious career. Aryna Sabalenka follows in second, with Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff rounding out the top five.
