Leylah Fernandez soared into the quarterfinals of the Hong Kong Open with a commanding 6-4, 6-1 victory over Germany’s Eva Lys on Wednesday.
The second seed of the tournament showcased her skills by winning 73 percent of her first-serve points and securing four breaks against Lys in the spirited 68-minute battle.
Hailing from Laval, Quebec, Fernandez notched up three aces and just one double fault, concluding the match with an impressive five-game winning streak.
This victory marks Fernandez’s seventh win in her last eight matches, a remarkable series that includes clinching the title at the Japan Open earlier this month.
At just 23 years old, Fernandez is set to face seventh-seeded Sorana Cirstea from Romania in her next clash.
Meanwhile, fellow Canadian Victoria Mboko, seeded No. 3, is gearing up to take on Alexandra Eala of the Philippines on Thursday.
