On Monday, tennis stars Karen Khachanov, Daniil Medvedev, and Flavio Cobolli joined local talents Alexander Shevchenko and Beibit Zhukayev to celebrate the grand opening of the Alatau International Tennis Complex, a new gem for Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.

Located in the rapidly developing Alatau district of Almaty, this state-of-the-art facility boasts 14 courts, featuring both indoor and outdoor hard and clay surfaces, and is equipped with a gym, medical center, cafe, and conference hall. With a capacity to accommodate up to 500 athletes daily, the complex meets all international standards for ITF and ATF tournaments.

The opening event attracted a large crowd of enthusiastic fans and aspiring junior players, with lively performances from a local band and a symbolic tree-planting ceremony conducted by the participating athletes.

Important figures such as Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy and KTF President Bulat Utemuratov graced the occasion with their presence.

“This new tennis centre stands as a cornerstone for the thriving Alatau district in our city,” remarked Satybaldy. “It will serve as a foundation for nurturing young athletes and hosting both national and international competitions. This initiative not only enhances Almaty’s reputation within the global sports arena but also aids in the overall growth of our city.”

It All Adds Up

Backed by the support of the KTF, the Alatau center marks the 39th tennis venue built in Kazakhstan since 2007. The Federation has successfully facilitated the construction of 291 courts nationwide, with over $200 million in private investment supporting this growth over the last 18 years.

Beyond professional training initiatives, the complex is set to offer free programs for children from underprivileged families, as well as discounted services for large families and seniors. It is also fully accessible for individuals with limited mobility, ensuring that all training sessions are conducted by certified coaches.

“Investment in infrastructure is pivotal to making tennis accessible to a wider audience,” articulated KTF President Utemuratov. “The Alatau Tennis Centre exemplifies how creating world-class facilities can propel sports into a burgeoning movement. Today, over 30,000 children in Kazakhstan engage in tennis regularly, and one of our strategic goals continues to be expanding participation while promoting a healthy lifestyle for all.”

The inauguration of the Alatau Tennis Complex signifies yet another milestone in Kazakhstan’s ascent in the world of tennis, balancing the cultivation of elite talent with broader community engagement.
