STATESVILLE, N.C. — Jimmie Johnson, the iconic seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, is bolstering his race team with a lineup of remarkable achievers.
On Thursday, Johnson unveiled an innovative ownership group for Legacy Motor Club that features an impressive array of championship-caliber athletes, Grammy Award winners, visionary entrepreneurs, savvy investors, and cultural icons. Johnson retains his position as the team’s primary owner.
The group includes eminent figures such as six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, four-time champion Dario Franchitti, two-time National League MVP Bryce Harper, Indianapolis 500 victor Tony Kanaan, former U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick, 11-time surfing world champion Kelly Slater, and six-time MLB All-Star Chase Utley.
In addition, the ownership roster boasts three-time Grammy winner Darius Rucker, Emmy-award-winning chef Guy Fieri, Amway co-founder Jen Rubio, and CrossHarbor Capital co-founder Sam Byrne.
“This is not your typical ownership team,” Johnson remarked in a statement. “It’s a dynamic coalition of individuals who excel in competition, leadership, innovation, storytelling, and the creation of enduring organizations. Their diverse backgrounds unite under a shared vision: Legacy can evolve into something uniquely transformative within motorsports and culture.”
The establishment of this ownership group exemplifies Legacy’s commitment to crafting a cutting-edge motorsports organization that not only thrives on the racetrack but also gains significance across media, partnerships, hospitality, and fan engagement.
“Successful organizations are forged by individuals who know what it takes to win and how to build for the future,” Johnson added. “The caliber, diversity, and insights of this group precisely reflect the direction in which Legacy is headed.”
Johnson, alongside Knighthead Capital Management, co-owns Legacy, which fields two full-time competitors in the Cup Series. Drivers Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek represent Legacy, which also includes a third entry for Johnson at select events.
