Before this exceptional run, Sinner had never advanced past the quarter-finals in Madrid. He faced a tough challenge in his opening match against Benjamin Bonzi, dropping the first set. However, the 24-year-old rallied to win 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-4, marking just his second set loss in his last five Masters 1000 events.
With newfound confidence in the high-altitude conditions of Madrid, Sinner swiftly dispatched 22-year-old Elmer Moller, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the third round.
Next, he faced British left-hander Cameron Norrie. Despite some resistance in the second set, Sinner emerged victorious with a score of 6-2, 7-5, matching his best result at this prestigious clay-court event and securing a spot in the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Sinner encountered #NextGenATP’s Rafael Jodar, a 19-year-old who had upset Alex de Minaur and Joao Fonseca to reach this stage. Facing a formidable opponent, Sinner showcased his skills, particularly during a pivotal backhand break point, ultimately winning 6-2, 7-6(0).
Advancing to the semi-finals, Sinner faced the in-form Arthur Fils, who had just come off a nine-match winning streak, thanks to his victory at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona. Nonetheless, Sinner delivered when it counted, securing his place in the Madrid final with a decisive 6-2, 6-4 win.
In the finals, Sinner made history, dominating Alexander Zverev with a remarkable score of 6-1, 6-2. This victory marks his ninth Masters 1000 title and brings his total to 15 ‘Big Titles,’ including Grand Slams, Nitto ATP Finals crowns, and Olympic gold medals. Sinner is the first player to clinch the first four Masters 1000 titles in a single season since the series began.
