Even amidst the celebration of his latest ATP Masters 1000 victory, Jannik Sinner took a moment to reflect on the profound impact his parents have had on his journey.

As the top seed in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner spoke candidly about his parents, Siglinde and Hanspeter, following his triumph at the Mutua Madrid Open. A journalist pointed out the significance of the day in Spain, leading Sinner to share his heartfelt appreciation.

“I feel incredibly fortunate. At 13, I made the tough decision to leave home and train at a centre,” Sinner explained. “That’s a hard choice for any parent, especially a mother, to accept—letting their child go. It was challenging for me, but undoubtedly harder for them as they wanted to see me grow up.”

While Sinner’s historic run on the ATP Tour continues—marking him as the first player to secure five consecutive Masters 1000 titles—the 24-year-old acknowledges the sacrifices made along the way.

“I realize I’ve missed moments with my parents and want to make up for that time,” he admitted. “My grandparents on my mom’s side are still around, and I understand her desire to spend as much time with them as possible. Of course, I crave more family moments too.”

Although it’s common to see families of ATP Tour stars at events, the demands of the global tennis circuit often make regular family interaction difficult. Nevertheless, Sinner aspires to share more experiences with his loved ones, much like his rival Carlos Alcaraz, who is frequently accompanied by his family.

“It’s wonderful to see Carlos traveling with his family and his brother. He’s thriving, and I understand the importance of having loved ones around,” Sinner reflected. “When you lose someone, that’s when you truly feel regret. I hope to have more moments with my parents and loved ones, including my brother and friends, because life can shift quickly.”

[My mother] is undoubtedly a role model; I cherish having both my parents in my life. They are a true source of inspiration for me, and I strive to emulate their qualities so that I can be the best version of myself.”
