With a thrilling finish, Jannik Sinner triumphed over Fabian Marozsan, securing his place in the semi-finals on Monday at the China Open in Beijing.
The No. 2 ranked player in the PIF ATP standings, Sinner rebounded from a break down, clinching the final three games of the match to win 6-1, 7-5 against Marozsan. After breezing through the first set, the Italian showcased his talent, managing to recover from a 4-5 deficit, thus setting the stage for a semi-final encounter with fellow Top 10 competitor, Alex de Minaur.

While Sinner showcased dominance in the early stages against Marozsan, the Hungarian put forth a challenge that required Sinner to dig deep for his victory. Matching the 20-time tour-level champion’s intensity from the baseline, Marozsan bravely fended off four break points, leveling the second set at 4-4 before breaking Sinner’s serve for the first time.
However, Marozsan’s momentum faltered. A critical lapse in the 10th game allowed Sinner to break back without losing a point, and he similarly sealed his victory in the 12th game with another decisive break.
Advancing to the semi-finals in Beijing for the third occasion, the 2023 champion Sinner is set to face Alex de Minaur. The Australian third seed reached this stage after his quarter-final rival, Jakub Mensik, had to retire while trailing 1-4 in the first set due to injury.
As Sinner approaches Tuesday’s semi-finals, he enjoys a commanding 10-0 Lexus ATP Head2Head advantage over De Minaur. The Italian, currently ranked second in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin and already qualified for the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals, has now reached the semi-finals in seven of his eight tournaments this year.
