Jannik Sinner launched his Erste Bank Open journey with a stunning display on Wednesday, defeating Daniel Altmaier with a dominant scoreline of 6-0, 6-2—his fastest victory of 2025.
The top seed and reigning champion showcased his extraordinary ballstriking and blistering speed, finishing the match in a mere 58 minutes. Despite facing setbacks earlier this month in Shanghai, Sinner extended his incredible indoor hard court winning streak to 17 matches.

“I felt everything clicking in the first set,” said Sinner. “On indoor courts, you must stay vigilant. If your opponent serves well, breaking them can quickly become a challenge. I’m thrilled with my performance today, setting a positive tone for the tournament—both in gameplay and in terms of confidence.”
Earlier this season, Sinner’s quickest win came during his opener in Cincinnati against Daniel Elahi Galan in 59 minutes. Against Altmaier, the 24-year-old Italian unleashed 19 winners while committing only seven unforced errors, not facing a single break point, per Infosys ATP Stats.
After improving his record to 29-0 in opening rounds since Cincinnati in 2023, Sinner looks forward to his next match against fellow countryman Flavio Cobolli, who triumphed over Tomas Machac with a score of 7-6(6), 6-2.
Last week’s Almaty champion, Daniil Medvedev, kicked off his Vienna title pursuit with a gritty win over Nuno Borges, 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-2. After squandering two match points in the second-set tie-break, Medvedev regrouped effectively and is eager to reclaim the trophy he last won in 2022.
Currently 13th in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, Medvedev could face eighth-placed Lorenzo Musetti in a thrilling quarter-final matchup, but first, he must overcome Corentin Moutet—who previously breezed past qualifier Damir Dzumhur with a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Matteo Berrettini, a semi-finalist in Vienna back in 2019, opened the center court action with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory over Alexei Popyrin. Next in line for Berrettini is a challenge from Cameron Norrie, whom he leads 2-0 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
