After clinching his fifth ATP Masters 1000 title in Paris, Jannik Sinner is set to reclaim the top spot in the PIF ATP Rankings. Reflecting on his remarkable achievement, the Italian shared his thoughts on regaining his position at the pinnacle of men’s tennis.
“I’m really pleased. I was aware of the possibility from the beginning of the week. But, as I always say, before any final or match, my focus is on delivering my best performance. Whatever happens after that is beyond my control,” Sinner remarked. “This is how I approach the court. In Turin, I plan to maintain the same mindset, concentrating solely on playing my best tennis.”
“The objective throughout this week was to take it one day at a time, maximizing my potential, which I feel I have accomplished, and I’m truly delighted with that.”
Sinner is poised to enjoy his 66th week at No. 1 starting Monday; however, he will drop to No. 2 on November 10 as Carlos Alcaraz is anticipated to reclaim the lead.
Demonstrating his dominance, Sinner went through the Rolex Paris Masters without losing a single set—an outstanding feat since Alcaraz did the same at Indian Wells in 2023. He’s also extended his winning streak indoors to an impressive 26 matches.
Since his US Open final loss to Alcaraz in September, Sinner has been continuously evolving his game and elaborated on this transformative journey after securing his 23rd title at the tour level.
“I strive to step out of my comfort zone during practice sessions to explore new avenues that could enhance my performance in the future,” Sinner explained. “In matches, it’s important to strike a balance between experimentation and winning.”
“It’s not about trying something new every point or solely focusing on winning. This is what I meant recently about playing with the scoreboard. If I have a break advantage, I explore different strategies and become more aggressive at times. This is all part of my current growth process.”
Looking ahead, Sinner will compete at the Nitto ATP Finals on home turf in Turin, but he’s eager to soak in the joy of his Paris victory first.
“I’m thrilled to celebrate this achievement with my team and those close to me. We all acknowledge the tremendous work and effort invested, and when results manifest, our happiness is collective,” Sinner shared, with coach Darren Cahill by his side in Paris.
“The season isn’t over yet, so while it’s essential to appreciate these victories, regardless of their significance, it’s also a relief after such an intense week. I’m very happy and plan to take a few days off to recharge both physically and mentally. After that, we’ll begin preparing as best we can for Turin.”
With a remarkable season record of 53-4, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Sinner also leads Auger-Aliassime 3-2 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head encounters.
