While the ATP Tour often features its brightest stars playing under the floodlights, the chance to witness two legends clash in the same session is a rare gem.
Fans with evening tickets for the Rolex Shanghai Masters were initially hoping to see either Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic in action on Sunday night, given that both are ranked No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, in the PIF ATP Rankings. To their delight, they will have the unique opportunity to watch both champions showcase their skills!
Starting at 6:30 p.m. local time, Djokovic will kick off the evening session against German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann in their second Lexus ATP Head2Head duel. This exciting match will be followed by Sinner going up against the 27th seed, Tallon Griekspoor, as the Italian aims to maintain his flawless record against the Dutch player, bringing it to an impressive 7-0.
“Even though I’m early in my career, it’s fantastic to play after Novak. It’s a real treat for the fans, and I hope we can deliver some memorable tennis in both matches,” said Sinner, highlighting the excitement surrounding this highly sought-after ticket.
This double-header celebration arrives just in time as the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena marks its 20th anniversary. Initially constructed to host the Nitto ATP Finals from 2005-08, the venue boasts a retractable roof designed to resemble Shanghai’s official flower, the magnolia, when closed.
With both Sinner and Djokovic set to compete on the same evening, fans may witness their showdown in a potential semi-final match later in the ATP Masters 1000 event. If both triumph in their upcoming matches, this would lead to their 11th Lexus ATP Head2Head encounter; currently, Sinner leads the series 6-4, having won their last five meetings, including recent battles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
