BEIJING — In a stunning display of skill, Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek triumphed over Yuan Yue with a dominant score of 6-0, 6-3 on Saturday, propelling herself into the third round of the China Open and etching her name into WTA Tour history.
According to the WTA, this victory marks a significant milestone for Swiatek, making her the first player ever to accumulate 25 or more wins at WTA-1000 events for three consecutive seasons.
The top-seeded Swiatek, fresh off her victory at the Korea Open in Seoul last week, boasts an impressive resume that includes four French Open titles and one U.S. Open championship among her six Grand Slam singles victories.
Earlier in Saturday’s matches in Beijing, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva showcased her talent by defeating Zhu Lin 6-2, 6-2, while American Emma Navarro edged past Elena-Gabriela Ruse with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (0).
Naomi Osaka took the lead in her second-round clash but ultimately fell as Aliaksandra Sasnovich made a comeback to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Meanwhile, Emma Raducanu secured her spot in the next round by beating Cristina Bucsa 6-3, 6-3.
This tournament is being held simultaneously with an ATP 500 men’s event.
In men’s action, Jannik Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals with a victory over Frenchman Terence Atmane, finishing the match 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Sinner, who faced Carlos Alcaraz in the U.S. Open final just weeks ago, had an impressive first-round showing where he dropped only four games against the seasoned Marin Cilic.
