BEIJING — Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek celebrated her 400th career victory by overcoming Camila Osorio, propelling her into the fourth round of the China Open on Monday.
Swiatek, marking a remarkable achievement as the first player to secure 25 or more wins at WTA-1000 events for three straight seasons, showcased her dominance with a straight-sets triumph over Yuan Yue in the third round. She swiftly dismantled her Colombian rival 6-0 in the opening set, leading to Osorio’s retirement after the first game of the second set.
“I definitely feel sorry for Camila; she always gives her all,” Swiatek expressed. “But aside from that, I felt confident in my performance during the first set and effectively pressed Camila.”
As the top seed in the tournament, Swiatek, who recently clinched victory at the Korea Open in Seoul, boasts an impressive resume that includes four French Open titles and a U.S. Open title among her six Grand Slam singles achievements. Her next challenge awaits in the form of American Emma Navarro.
In other third-round matches on the same day, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva triumphed over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro with a score of 6-4, 6-1, while Marta Kostyuk defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 6-2. Navarro was leading Lois Boisson 6-2, 1-0 when the French competitor retired from the match.
In the concurrent ATP 500 men’s tournament in Beijing, top-seeded Jannik Sinner advanced to the semifinals with a comfortable 6-1, 7-5 victory against Fabian Marozsan.
The 24-year-old Italian will next face third-seeded Alex de Minaur, who received a walkover after Jakub Mensik had to retire with an injury while trailing 4-1 in the first set.
Later on Monday, third-ranked Alexander Zverev is set to clash with No. 18 Daniil Medvedev in an exciting quarterfinal showdown.
