In a thrilling encounter at the Sardegna Open, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz overcame Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, a former Top 10 player, to secure his spot in the semifinals of this ATP Challenger 175 event held in Cagliari.
The sixth-seeded Hurkacz bounced back after losing the first set, eventually winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Following his arthroscopic right knee surgery last July, Hurkacz arrived at Cagliari with an overall record of 8-10 for the season and looked to regain his peak form. This match was a rematch of their notable Wimbledon semi-final clash from 2021.

Next up for Hurkacz is a match against fourth seed Roman Andres Burruchaga, who has displayed incredible resilience, saving match points in his last two matches. All quarter-final confrontations in Cagliari went the distance, with Burruchaga narrowly defeating American Marcos Giron 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(1).
The bottom half of the draw will be highlighted by an all-Italian semifinal showdown. Matteo Arnaldi triumphed over third seed Nuno Borges 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-6(3), while Gianluca Cadenasso came back to defeat Jesper de Jong 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 to secure his place in the last four.
Three of the top four seeds shine in Aix-en-Provence
The talented Alejandro Tabilo from Chile continues his pursuit of a second title in Aix-en-Provence, having previously won in 2024. The second seed speedily defeated Peru’s Ignacio Buse 6-4, 6-0, lining up a semifinal clash with American Ethan Quinn, who narrowly edged Wu Yibing 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Third seed Zizou Bergs edged out Australian Rinky Hijikata 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, while Pol Martin Tiffon has been the surprise package of the tournament, eliminating Kimmer Coppejans 7-6(7), 6-4 to book his place in the semifinals. Tiffon previously stunned former No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov in the first round before ousting top seed Alex Michelsen.
