The Miami Open presented by Itau welcomes Jannik Sinner, who comes in riding a sensational 10-match winning streak that began at Indian Wells. With just two more victories, he could become the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to claim the coveted Sunshine Double, winning both Miami and Indian Wells in the same year.

As the No. 2 player in the PIF ATP Rankings, Sinner boasts an impressive record of 30 consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 events, tracing back to his title at the Rolex Paris Masters. He enters his semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev with a remarkable six-match winning streak over the German, including a decisive 6-2, 6-4 victory just two weeks ago on the way to his Indian Wells title.

While Zverev enjoyed a successful run against the Italian from 2020 to 2023, he now finds himself trailing 4-7 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Dominating in Miami, Zverev has dropped just one set across four matches—only to Marin Cilic in the third round. He showcased his skills in the quarter-finals, demolishing 18th seed Francisco Cerundolo with an outstanding 6-1, 6-2 performance.

With an aggressive style of play, Zverev achieved three of his four Miami victories without conceding a break point, as per Infosys ATP Stats. His serving has been exceptionally strong, but he’ll need to sustain this level to challenge Sinner effectively.

“Tomorrow will be the toughest test,” Zverev commented after advancing to his 25th ATP Masters 1000 semi-final. “I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been feeling quite well, and I hope it continues.”

Boasting the most ATP Masters 1000 wins this decade (105), Zverev has reached the semi-finals in five of his last six appearances at this prestigious tier. With a runner-up finish in 2018, this marks his third time in the Miami semi-finals, and he aims to reach the finals at both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season for the first time.

Sinner, meanwhile, is on fire in the Miami heat. His most impressive victory came against home favorite Frances Tiafoe, whom he dispatched with a 6-2, 6-2 score, winning only nine points on serve and firing an incredible 14 aces across just eight service games.

After his standout seasons with eight titles in 2024 and six the previous year, he’s hungry for more and aims to secure his second title of the season.

“Staying hungry for more success is quite natural,” Sinner reflected after reaching the Miami semis for the fourth time in five attempts. “Mentally, one has to stay calm and relaxed off the court, especially after such an intense few weeks of tennis and practice. I’m keen to keep this momentum going, especially as this is my last hard-court tournament before transitioning to clay.”

Despite a retirement from the 2022 semis against Cerundolo, Sinner remains undefeated in completed matches prior to the finals in Miami. He is riding a 10-match winning streak at the event after losing only one set on his way to the title in 2024.

With no PIF ATP Rankings points to defend this year, Sinner stands to close the gap to World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz by 1,540 points with a title victory. Winning also brings him within 50 points in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.

For Zverev, a semi-final run will see him regain the No. 3 spot in the PIF ATP Rankings, surpassing Novak Djokovic, and he could challenge Daniil Medvedev for third in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin should he best Sinner. Capturing the trophy would bring him within 10 points of Sinner for second place.

The winner of this thrilling semi-final clash will enter the final with a strong advantage against either Arthur Fils or Jiri Lehecka, both of whom are chasing their first ATP Masters 1000 title.
