Jannik Sinner has a golden chance to reclaim the prestigious World No. 1 ranking from Carlos Alcaraz this week at the Rolex Paris Masters.
Since claiming the title at the US Open, Alcaraz has held the top spot, but Sinner can flip the script at this crucial ATP Masters 1000 event.
To regain the No. 1 ranking come next Monday, Sinner must clinch the title. If the 24-year-old captures the trophy, and Alcaraz fails to reach the semi-finals, the top ranking will shift.
PIF ATP Live Rankings (as they head into Paris)
| Paris Result | Carlos Alcaraz | Jannik Sinner |
| R32 | 11,250 | 10,510 |
| R16 | 11,340 | 10,600 |
| QF | 11,440 | 10,700 |
| SF | 11,640 | 10,900 |
| Finalist | 11,890 | 11,150 |
| Champion | 12,240 | 11,500 |
If Sinner does not secure his first Masters 1000 title of the season, his chances of returning to No. 1 will evaporate. Alcaraz can solidify his position by advancing to the semi-finals.
No matter the outcome this week, Alcaraz holds a decisive lead in the race for the ATP Year-End No. 1 title, presented by PIF. He currently tops the PIF ATP Live Race To Turin by a margin of 2,040 points.
Sinner, who will face Zizou Bergs in his opening match in France, needs to narrow the gap to 1,750 points by the tournament’s conclusion to keep his hopes of ending the year at No. 1 alive. Additionally, ATP 250 events in Athens and Metz loom, but both players have chosen not to enter. The Nitto ATP Finals also offer the chance for an undefeated champion to snag 1,500 points.
Alcaraz kicks off his tournament on Tuesday against Cameron Norrie in the second round.
