“The atmosphere was absolutely electric, and it made my debut win even more unforgettable,” exclaimed Hady Habib, who triumphed in his first Grand Slam match against China’s Bu Yunchaokete with scores of 7-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Having spent his formative years in Lebanon from ages six to twelve, the former Texas A&M standout felt a deep sense of pride representing his nation with this victory.

“This win holds significant meaning, especially considering the challenges our country has faced. It feels good to bring some joy amidst the turmoil we’ve endured due to the ongoing conflicts,” he shared. “I’m thrilled to achieve this for Lebanon and its resilient people.”

Born in Houston, Habib has proudly donned the Lebanese flag since he was just 15.

“My roots are in Lebanon,” he said. “I lived there from 6 to 12 years old, attended school, and started my tennis journey there. I still have many friends and family there.”

“I’ve been representing Lebanon since my debut in the Davis Cup at 15. That’s a pivotal part of my story.”

This landmark victory not only earns him a $132,000 prize but also propels him closer to his professional dreams. Starting the Australian Open ranked 219, the 26-year-old is now sitting at 163 in the live rankings. He hopes this moment catalyzes both his career and a positive wave for his country.

In December 2024, Habib claimed his first Challenger title in Temucu, Chile, and last week made history as the first player from Lebanon to qualify for a Grand Slam main draw.

This Sunday, he’ll aim to continue his remarkable journey as he takes on Ugo Humbert in the second round.

“This is by far the pinnacle of my career,” he stated, brimming with pride.
