After a lengthy pursuit for their inaugural Grand Slam, Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos have struck gold twice in just four months.
The dynamic duo staged a shocking comeback, fending off three championship points to defeat Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski with a score of 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-5, securing the illustrious US Open title. With this exhilarating victory that spanned two hours and 24 minutes, they made history as the first men’s doubles team to clinch multiple major titles in a single season since 2019.

“Honestly, I’m not even sure what to feel right now. This match was a true war,” Zeballos remarked during the trophy presentation. “When you pour your heart into such battles, it seems unjust to have a singular winner because both teams played exceptionally. Kudos to them as well.”
“It’s surreal to have won the US Open. The atmosphere with so many fans supporting us is truly magical.”
Granollers, absent from competition since Wimbledon before the US Open, added: “These two weeks were possibly the hardest of my career. I extend my gratitude to the physiotherapists, our medical support, and everyone who has helped me prepare for this tournament.”
“A special thank you to my partner, as we’ve been through a lot together. This year has yielded fantastic results, and I’m thrilled to share this journey with you.”

The accomplished duo of Granollers and Zeballos, with 14 tour-level titles to their name, have enjoyed a spell of remarkable success since teaming up in 2019. Despite their 0-3 record in Grand Slam finals prior to their Roland Garros victory in June, where they also defeated Salisbury and Skupski, the pair has demonstrated their resilience. They showcased remarkable composure in New York, rallying from 0/40 at 3-3 in the second set and then overcoming three championship points at 4-5, 0/40 in the third set.
The tides of the match turned dramatically in the following game when Skupski served after faltering on all three championship points. He and Salisbury quickly found themselves in a tough spot at 0/40, and despite saving the first two break points, they couldn’t withstand a blistering forehand return winner from Granollers on the third. Granollers then stepped up to serve out the match and secure their triumph.
Now soaring to second place in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings, Granollers and Zeballos are in hot pursuit of the Year-End ATP Doubles No. 1 title presented by PIF, trailing leaders Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool by just 830 points.
