In a nail-biting showdown, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez propelled Spain into the finals of the Davis Cup on Saturday, clinching a decisive 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 doubles victory over Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.

Prior to the doubles match, Alexander Zverev leveled the tie for Germany with a 7-6(2), 7-6(5) win against Jaume Munar, following Pablo Carreno Busta’s earlier triumph over Jan-Lennard Struff, 6-4, 7-6(6), which had given Spain a promising start.

Granollers and Martinez rose to the occasion in the decisive doubles match, saving a crucial break point while serving at 5-3, 30/40 in the final set. They seized victory on their first match point, igniting a wave of jubilant celebration among their teammates.

Earlier in the day, Carreno Busta showcased his resilience by saving five consecutive set points in the second set against Struff. He staged a remarkable comeback from 1/6 down in the tie-break, giving Spain the early advantage after one hour and 46 minutes of intense play.

It All Adds Up

Despite Zverev’s impressive performance, which included 32 winners and 13 aces, Germany’s efforts fell short. Zverev concludes his season boasting a 57-25 record, as per the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index.

This marks Spain’s first return to the Davis Cup final since they lifted the trophy in 2019. The former champions are set to face two-time defending champions Italy in Sunday’s highly anticipated showdown.
