Germany’s own Alexander Zverev and American sensation Coco Gauff have been crowned the top seeds for the men’s and women’s draws at the highly anticipated National Bank Open Presented by Rogers.

Zverev, currently holding the No. 3 spot in the world rankings, leads the men’s field, especially after top players like world No. 1 Jannik Sinner from Italy, No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, No. 5 Jack Draper from the USA, and the legendary 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic (ranked sixth) announced their withdrawals from the event.

Their reasons for stepping back include injuries and the need for recovery after an intense Wimbledon Grand Slam, which concluded on July 13 with Sinner claiming victory over Alcaraz.

In the men’s tournament in Toronto, Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime and Richmond Hill’s Denis Shapovalov are seeded 24th and 25th, respectively. Additionally, Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo takes the 30th seed among the men.

On the women’s side, Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam champion ranked No. 2 globally, stands as the top seed in Montreal. Unfortunately, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus had to withdraw last week due to exhaustion. Notably, there are no Canadian players in the top 32 for the women’s event.

All top-32 seeds from both the men’s and women’s draws will enjoy first-round byes as the tournament unfolds from Saturday until August 7.
