In the midst of her healing journey from a back issue, Caroline Garcia has officially announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Mutua Madrid Open.

The prestigious Mutua Madrid Open is scheduled to take place from April 21 to May 4 at the iconic Caja Magica.

The two-time French Open doubles champion took to her social media platforms to share that her ongoing treatment and recovery make it impossible for her to compete in Madrid. Although her participation in next month’s WTA 1000 event in Rome remains uncertain, Garcia’s primary focus is on preparing to be fit and healthy for Roland Garros.

The clay-court Grand Slam kicks off on May 25 in Paris.

“Following some further evaluation of my back, it’s evident that playing in Madrid isn’t feasible,” Garcia expressed in an Instagram update. “I need to devote time to treatment and recuperation. I will strive to be ready for Rome, but my main objective is to be in top form for Roland Garros.”

“It’s a tough pill to swallow. After last year’s break, I returned feeling revitalized, optimistic, and driven. While the results weren’t immediately evident, I was confident in the direction I was heading. This setback is painful, but I will harness it to emerge even stronger.”

The 31-year-old Garcia holds a record of 3-6 this season and has not competed since facing World No. 2 Iga Swiatek, where she lost 6-2, 7-5 at last month’s Miami Open.

A former world No. 4, Garcia has not participated in any clay-court matches since her first-round exit against Jaqueline Cristian during the Paris Olympics at Roland Garros last July.
