Canada is kicking off strong at the year’s second Grand Slam event!

On Monday, both Alexis Galarneau and Liam Draxl triumphed in their opening matches of the French Open men’s qualifying round.

In an exhilarating contest, Galarneau, hailing from Laval, Quebec, battled through to a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-7) victory against Argentina’s Alex Barrena.

Meanwhile, Draxl, from Newmarket, Ontario, secured his win over Russia’s Ilia Simakin with scores of 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-2.

To secure a coveted spot in the main draw, players need to triumph in three qualifying matches.

Earlier this year, Draxl made headlines by qualifying for the Australian Open, marking his debut at a Grand Slam. Galarneau is currently on the hunt for his first appearance in a Grand Slam main draw.

In addition, Canada’s Bianca Andreescu, Katherine Sebov, Kayla Cross, Carol Zhao, and Cadence Brace are set to take on their first-round women’s qualifiers on Tuesday.

The main draw is scheduled to commence this Sunday.
