Canada’s very own Gabriel Diallo celebrated a milestone by clinching his inaugural ATP Tour title at the thrilling Libema Open held in the Netherlands on Sunday.
The talented 23-year-old from Montreal triumphed over Belgium’s Zizou Bergs with a score of 7-5, 7-6 (8).
In a gripping second set filled with tension, Diallo found himself trailing 6-4 in the tiebreaker but showcased remarkable resilience, rallying back to secure three consecutive points and clinch the victory.
Ranked 55th in the world, Diallo delivered an impressive performance with nine aces and only two double faults. He dominated with a 76% success rate on his first serve and capitalized on his sole break-point opportunity.
This victory marks Diallo’s second career final, following his runner-up finish at the Almaty Open last October.
Standing tall at six feet eight inches, Diallo made history as the first Canadian man to reach the singles final in this prestigious event.
With this win, he’s set to soar to a new career-high ranking of 44th in the world.
Looking ahead, Diallo aims to carry his winning momentum into Wimbledon, where he is poised to make his main-draw debut after missing qualifying rounds in the past two years.
Recently, he reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open and faced a tough exit in the second round of the French Open.
The iconic Wimbledon grass-court tournament is set to kick off on June 30. Diallo will first compete at London’s HSBC Queen’s Club Championships on Monday, where he will meet England’s Billy Harris in the Round of 32.
