American ace Taylor Fritz, 28, delivered an outstanding performance to storm into the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the fourth time, triumphing over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, 29, with a scoreline of 7-6(1), 6-4, 6-4 on Court No. 1, finishing the contest in just one hour and 39 minutes.

This victory enhances Fritz’s head-to-head record against Bublik to 5-4, and he remains undefeated on grass against the Kazakh at 3-0, including a previous straight-sets win in Stuttgart last month. The American unleashed 23 aces and notched up 47 winners while committing just eight unforced errors. He excelled by winning 89 percent of his first-serve points and 76 percent on his second, converting three of his four break-point chances.

This win vaults Fritz into his eighth Grand Slam quarterfinal.

After trailing with an early break in the first set, Fritz swiftly regained his composure. He broke back and dominated the tiebreak, charging through it with a stunning 7-1 score to take charge of the match.

From that point on, Fritz’s powerful serve and aggressive play kept Bublik from showcasing the magic that had carried him to the fourth round. At one moment, Bublik stood at the service line for nearly 20 seconds as applause echoed from another match. When the crowd’s cheers finally subsided, the laughter and applause from the No. 1 Court created a light-hearted atmosphere before the action resumed. Fritz seized the only break in each of the last two sets, sealing the match in straight sets.

In the post-match press conference, Fritz expressed his satisfaction: “Yeah, I’m super happy. It’s a really tough match against him. Just to get through it in three straight sets, especially after going down a break at the start, I’m really pleased with how I played.”

Discussing his returns against Bublik’s serve, Fritz noted: “The key difference on grass is how I approach returning. I’ve managed to read his serves much better in Stuttgart and here. I was connecting well with his first serve, giving myself strong starting points.”

He added, “What I did best today was capitalize on my opportunities. When he had chances on my serve, I managed to handle them effectively.”

Fritz’s next challenge awaits him, as he will face either Alexander Zverev or Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals. Their fourth-round match will resume on Tuesday after being halted overnight due to Wimbledon’s 11 p.m. curfew.
