LONDON (AP) — The intense semifinal clash between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz at Wimbledon saw play interrupted twice as fans succumbed to the sweltering heat on Friday.

With temperatures soaring to 89.6 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) at Centre Court, both delays occurred during the eighth game of the second set.

Previous similar interruptions marked the women’s semifinal match on Thursday.

During the first delay, Fritz swiftly fetched a water bottle from his cooler and enlisted a ball boy to deliver it to the ailing fan. Moments later, the two competitors had a brief exchange at the net during the second delay, which extended for several minutes, as both fans received necessary medical attention.

The prestigious grass-court tournament has already witnessed record high temperatures, with Day 1 reaching a sizzling 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius).
