NEW YORK — Jack Draper, who reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open in 2024 and entered this year as the No. 5 seed, has officially pulled out of the tournament due to injury.
He was set to face Zizou Bergs in the second round, but Bergs has now advanced to the third round by walkover.
Since his second-round exit at Wimbledon, Draper had been struggling with a troublesome bone bruise in his upper arm, which limited his ability to deliver powerful serves and forehands.
In his opening match on Monday, the British player triumphed over Argentine qualifier Federico Agustin Gomez in four sets, though he admitted his serve lacked its typical strength.
Draper had consistently progressed to at least the third round in his previous three U.S. Open appearances. Last year, he made headlines by becoming the first man since Daniil Medvedev in 2020 to reach the semifinals without dropping a single set, before ultimately losing to the reigning champion, Jannik Sinner.
