ROME — In a surprising turn of events, Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada has pulled out of the prestigious Italian Open tennis tournament this Saturday.

The rising star from Montreal was set to compete against Brazilian player Thiago Seyboth Wild, but details surrounding his withdrawal remain undisclosed.

Stepping in for Auger-Aliassime will be Bolivia’s Hugo Dellien, who is now scheduled to face Seyboth Wild.

On a brighter note in women’s doubles, the top-seeded duo of Gabriela Dabrowski from Ottawa and Erin Routliffe from New Zealand secured a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win against Poland’s Katarzyna Piter and Romania’s Monica Niculescu. They showcased their skills by converting six out of twelve break point opportunities, while their challengers managed only two out of six.

Additionally, Montreal’s Leylah Fernandez, alongside partner Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, triumphed over China’s Xu Yifan and Japan’s Makoto Ninomiya with a score of 6-3, 6-2. The victorious pair delivered an impressive seven aces, leaving their opponents scoreless in that department.
